I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui. I would like to start by pointing out how enormous and beautiful this resort is. The drive into the valet sets the tone for what is to come. Walking into this resort is definitely a site to see! I was told that the property is stretched out over 40 acres and it definitely feels like it! Upon arrival we were greeted with a lei and kukui nut lei, and were escorted over to the check-in desk.
Checking in to our room was a breeze thanks to their kind and experienced staff, but do expect a crowd. During the check-in process we were handed a paper listing all the Signature amenities that were offered during our stay. We arrived a few hours early and although they weren’t able to accommodate an early check in, they were able to hold onto our luggage while we explored the resort.
Our room was located in the Napua Tower, which is an Exclusive Club. To enter the Napua Tower you must use your room key to enter the secluded part of the resort. You can think of this as its own private hotel within the resort. The Napua Tower provides a list of club amenities you can attend, for example Coffee & Juice, Continental Breakfast, Afternoon Activities, Hors d’oeuvres, and Chocolate Decadence ALL COMPLIMENTARY! The continental breakfast is definitely something you don’t want to miss out on! I would recommend sitting outside, as you get to enjoy your breakfast with a view towards the ocean.
The room was a perfect size for two people. The most noticeable thing about our room was the view from the balcony. From the Napua Tower, you are able to see much of what is happening within the hotel. Our room was located just above the hotels bar, which was nice when the live music began in the evening. Our room was nice, simple and full of light thanks to the big sliding door windows facing out with a partial ocean view! The bathroom has a double vanity including both a shower and a mid-sized tub.
The pool is something you must experience when you stay at the Grand Wailea and was personally my favorite thing about the resort. It is huge and extremely family friendly. Be aware, this is indeed a family resort! It has hidden hot tubs, caves, water slides, and even a volleyball court. It is most definitely a kid’s dream! Even though you will see plenty of kids, there are still adult pools and hot tubs that will allow the adults to feel like adults.
One thing I really enjoyed about the Grand Wailea was the little swim-up bar called the Grotto Bar. Nothing like relaxing in the pool while having a cocktail. There is also plenty of pool side seating, so don’t worry about having to hunt for a place to lay by the pool. The hotel also offers complimentary sunscreen in multiple locations throughout the hotel, which is bonus considering how large the resort is.
Towards the end of the night we visited the Napua lounge for chocolate decadence, an exclusive amenity for those in the Napua tower. After we finished having some delicious treats, we decided to go downstairs and enjoy some drinks while listing to some live music.
My overall experience at the Grand Wailea is going to be one to remember. The resort is huge and has something to offer for everyone in the family. From all the delicious food we tried, to the service we received, all exceeded my expectations. I would most definitely recommend this hotels to families visiting Maui on vacation!
