"Pent Up Demand" will likely be the definition of travel in 2021. After a staggering amount of canceled trips in 2020, and an equal amount of travelers anxious to continue their normal travel patterns, plus advanced science in the form of rapid testing and much anticipated vaccines, the demand for travel in 2021 could be unprecedented.
There is already a supply shortage for 2021.
• So many of the trips that were canceled simply rolled over into the next year.
• And many itineraries, including Africa and cruising, typically start booking more than a year in advance under normal conditions.
• Limits on occupancy may still be in effect to curb the spread of the virus.
All of this insight is really to inspire you. With all the flexible cancelation and change policies in place, it's better to reserve you hotel, resort and cruise space now, so that you don't miss out later.
Great examples for the close-in future are Hawaii and Costa Rica, which will both be fully open by November 1 for tourism. Both are ideal for family holidays – think winter and spring breaks. And both have put serious measures in place to keep you safe from the moment you step out your door to the moment you return home. But it is crucial to jump on reservations ASAP. If you want to travel at all in 2021, especially the summer and the holiday breaks, it's best to give yourself a minimum of 6 months if you can.
