Ideas to Get You Inspired to Begin Your Anticipated Travel Planning

By Steve Orens, President, Plaza Travel

As the calendar clicked from 2020 to 2021 we passed an emotional hurdle…moving from 2020 and into 2021. While there has been little, if any, change in travel options as the clock moved to 12:01 AM on January 1, 2021, our minds moved onto a new path. Our runway seems closer and our travels seem more feasible to realization. While many may not travel for a number of months, there are hundreds of thousands of people traveling now. In the future, we will all be joining those travelers. So now is the time to make those travel plans, time to reserve those future travel dreams and time to have something to look forward to.

For those of you with a future cruise credit: at this time most cruise lines have yet again delayed sailings for another month. We’re looking at sometime in May now, and it may be longer. However, I’d recommend you apply your future cruise credit now for something in 2022, or as close to the expiration date of your future cruise credit as possible. Right now the space/availability is fairly open and the rates are fairly good. As we move forward, space will be reserved and rates will only increase. If cruising comes back sooner than later, rates and availability should be pretty good and you can make a last minute reservation.

If Africa is the next thing on your bucket list, maybe it’s time to head to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2021 and explore the wildlife in Yellowstone while planning your Africa trip for later this year or 2022. You might even consider a trip to San Diego and explore the Wild Animal Park there in anticipation of your upcoming Africa trip.

What about river cruising? While most of us think about river cruises for tulip time or the wine regions in Europe… what about planning a river cruise for later in the year? There are a number of great Christmas market river cruises at great rates for a wonderful river cruise experience.

Overall, now is the time to look, and plan ahead and get something reserved to look forward to. Consider destinations or experiences you might not have thought of before. The pandemic has given us time to take a step back, take a breath or just look at your upcoming travel bucket list through a different lens.  While cruises, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and many other destinations will remain as the main travel preferences, now is the time to further explore the domestic United States and plan an international trip for later this year or in 2022.
