NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR DOMESTIC TRAVEL

Does your goverment-issued ID have one of the following markings in the upper portion of the card?

The Real ID Act requires that driver’s licenses meet standards set by the Department of Homeland Security; US passports already meet these requirements.

Starting on October 1, 2020, travelers who elect to use a state-issued driver's license at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport checkpoints must ensure that it is REAL ID-compliant, which means it is marked with a star located in the upper portion of the card. This includes domestic travel.

There are clear signs that the traveling public is not prepared for this deadline, which risks chaos at airport checkpoints. According to the U.S. Travel Association, 57% of Americans are unaware of the October 1, 2020 deadline. Furthermore, it is estimated that 182 million Americans (72%) either have a standard driver's license or are unsure whether their ID is REAL ID-compliant, and an estimated 99 million Americans (39%) do not have any form of identification (e.g. passport, US military ID, enhanced driver's license) that will be accepted on October 1, 2020.
